“Be You”: EKU Alums Offer a Roadmap for Autism With Kham’s Klub Nonprofit More than 85,000 people in Kentucky have been formally diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Nationally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently reported that about 1 in every 31 children was diagnosed with autism by age 8 in 2022, up from 1 in 36 in 2020. Despite the widespread impact, many states lack the necessary resources to help families navigate the complexities of an autism diagnosis. With April being Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month, attention across Kentucky and the country has turned to the need for support systems in local communities. Motivated by their own firsthand experiences, two Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) graduates founded Kham’s Klub, a nonprofit organization in Richmond dedicated to supporting families as they navigate an autism diagnosis. Read on to discover how Kham’s Klub is making a difference across Kentucky.
